Contributor License Agreement

Tool for Community Involvement

What

A contributor license agreement (CLA) outlines the terms of an individual’s participation and the ownership of his/her contributions. The language of the CLA should be easily understandable and avoid technical and legal terms. It should be provided in alternative formats in advance of a collaborative activity to allow all participants enough time and resources to access and understand its content.

Why

To be able to participate in a collaborative activity, each contributor needs to sign a CLA to indicate agreement to the provided license terms. Individuals who choose to not sign a CLA won’t be able to participate in a collaborative activity, as each participant’s permission is required in order to openly license the group contributions.

Contributor License Agreement (CLA)

Thank you for working with us on the [Project name] project. During this workshop, you will join a group of people to participate in an act of collective creativity. In this process, you may collaboratively create new and original material, such as verbal and written notes, audio or video recordings, drawings, images, etc.

You can leave the activity at any time; however, your contributions cannot be removed from the results as they are considered part of a collective work.

Reuse of your contributions by others

By signing this agreement, you agree to license any new and original material (stories, images, audio/video recordings and written words) produced during the co-design activity under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0):  https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

With this license you agree that:

* Others can share your contributions freely and they can also modify it or make changes.

* Users of your contribution must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if they have made any changes to your original work.

* You may not apply legal terms that legally restrict others from doing anything this license permits.

* You cannot take away these freedoms, as long as users of your contributions also follow these license terms.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this agreement, please contact [Name] via email at [Email address].
